Community guidelines

The expectations that keep PKOUG useful and respectful: be specific, be accurate, be respectful, disclose interests and protect confidential information.

These guidelines describe what the PKOUG moderators act on. They reflect the report reasons moderators use and the rules built into the platform.

Be useful #

  • Ask specific questions with enough detail to reproduce the problem.
  • Answer what was asked, explain why, and say when you are unsure.
  • Search before posting; a duplicate may be locked or removed in favour of the existing topic.
  • Post in the category that fits. Off-topic posts may be edited, locked or removed.

Be accurate #

Technical advice can cause outages or data loss. Test what you recommend, state versions and assumptions, and correct yourself when you are wrong. Misleading advice can be reported.

Be respectful #

No personal attacks, harassment or abusive language. Disagree with the content, not the person. There are no downvotes on PKOUG; reply with your reasoning instead.

Be transparent #

  • No spam or unsolicited advertising.
  • Disclose commercial interests. Promotion presented as neutral advice is not allowed.
  • Sponsors and partners follow the same rules; sponsorship does not buy editorial or moderation treatment.

Protect information #

Never post passwords, keys, connection strings, customer data, personal data or confidential employer information. See Content and safety guidelines.

Recognition fairly earned #

Do not trade votes, vote with multiple accounts or post to farm points. See Fair-play rules.
